I think the Zend Framework has completely missed the point with it's Zend_Rest implementation. REST is not just about using URI's and GET/POST/PUT/DELETE but about providing structured access to *resources* not *procedures* (ie. not RPC). They have basically just reimplemented XML-RPC with some different syntax and missed the benefits of REST completely. Thankfully, because of REST's HTTP nature, you can just bypass Zend_Rest_* and use a normal MVC approach.

Hi Rob,

Thanks, I looked at SDO when it was in beta and it seemed like a stagnant project at the time, I wasn't aware that it had finally become stable. Would be nice to have some time to play with it.

I think I might of spoken to you before at one of the PHP London meetings as I member something about working on a re-writing/merging some search engines. Hows that going?

groovecoder: Yes that was very much similar to the XmlRpc implementation and I simply wrote a wrapper to merge the two together, still lots of work to be done on ZF in terms of the web-services implementation...

Thanks

Interesting post, have you looked at the service component architecture pecl project [1]? It allows you to expose an interface over multiple protocols, among other things.

andrew,

glad you were relatively happy with your project. so what do *you* think about Zend_Rest? it sounds like you found it somewhat skimpy. did you find it duplicating the approach of Zend_XmlRpc?
